PDGA DISC GOLF COURSE DESIGN STANDARDS
The following standards should be used as a guideline to both
design new and to modify existing disc golf courses. The intent is
to maintain a consistent design of the highest quality for all disc
golf courses.
1) The course must have a total length, as determined by the sum of
the distance from the tee to the hole:
9 Holes: 1500 ft./457.3 m. minimum, 4000 ft./1219.5 m. maximum
18 Holes: 3000 ft./914.6 m. minimum, 7000 ft./2134.1 m. maximum
2) At least one hole per 9 should exceed 300 ft./91.5 m., but none
should be less than 90 ft./27.5 m., regardless of terrain.
3) A variety of throws should be encouraged; at least 3 holes per
18 should require a left curve throw and 3 holes per 18 favor a
right curve throw.
4) The course should be designed to facilitate tournament play. The
following are required for this:
a) The fairway of one hole must not cross or overlap the
fairway of another hole.
b) The tee pad must be placed far enough away from the nearest
pole-hole so that no interference will be incurred.
c) Fairways should not cross streets that cannot be closed or
pedestrian walks that are frequently used.
d) Wherever, possible allowances should be made for spectators
by separating pole-holes enough to allow crowds to view the
game without interfering.
5) Tee signs should indicate the distance of the tee pad to the
pole-hole and must show all mandatory dog-legs and out-of-bounds
areas. Par shown on tee signs should be for amateur players, and
should indicate the direction of the next tee pad from the pole-
hole.
6) Tee pads must allow for the safety of the player by having no
obstruction near the end of the pad or on either side. The surface
must be flat and the transition from pad to soil should be smooth.
7) There may not be more than one mandatory on any single hole.
There must not be more than 2 mandataries per 9 holes, and should
be discouraged from use whenever the natural terrain provides
adequate obstacles.
8) There should be a natural transition from the last hole played
to the next tee pad. If possible, tee pads for hole #1 and #10, and
holes #9 and #18 should be near the entrance to the course. This is
for player convenience.
9) There should always be a preferred flight path to the pole-hole.
